Exhibiting at the Expos

Franklin Adhesives & Polymers is hitting the road this spring to exhibit at two major trade shows: the Converting and Package Printing (CPP) Expo and the Pressure Sensitive Tape Council (PSTC).

We will join a number of other Ohio companies that serve the converting industry at the I-X Center in Cleveland April 18 and 19 for the CPP Expo. If you are attending the show, we hope to see you at booth 6081. Our experts will be on hand to help you explore the best adhesive solutions for package labeling.

We’re off again a few weeks later to set up our booth at the PSTC show, held May 2 through May 4 at the Seaport Hotel & World Trade Center, in Boston. You’ll find us at booth 15.

We hope we will have a chance to meet you at one of the shows – and to explore how we might best meet your needs for permanent, removable or repositionable pressure sensitive adhesives.

Converting Quarterly Gives Full Coverage to Microspheres

Open the January/February 2012 issue of Converting Quarterly, and you’ll see an article on microsphere adhesives – and how they can open all-new possibilities in packaging for you and your customers.

In a feature articled bylined by Mike Witte, director of national accounts – polymer, at Franklin Adhesives & Polymers, the issue explores the potential of today’s advanced microsphere technology in developing unique solutions for labels, tapes and packaging.

“Microsphere Adhesives: New Performance and Applications” discusses the basics of microsphere technology, which produces the most repositionable PSAs available. Microspheres can be lifted and reaffixed over and over again without affecting the face stock or the substrate. They contain larger particles, or spheres, than are used in conventional PSAs. These spheres form a discontinuous adhesive surface that limits adhesive contact with the substrate and renders microspheres so repositionable.

Although basic microsphere technology has existed since the 1960s, recent advancements in technology create new opportunities for converters. Our new Micronax microsphere lines vary sphere size and other properties, such as viscosity, percentage of solids and pH value, to create a versatile line of adhesives that adhere, over and over again, to such substrates as painted walls and refrigerators in addition to paper products.

As the article points out, microspheres have come a long way from their original use as an adhesive on the back of repositionable notepaper. Today, they can be used to screen-print or print electronic skins for laptops or help shelf-edge labels stay put – and be easily replaced – on the grocery store shelves. They make possible the newly expanded labels used on detergents, fertilizers and other products.

The article in Converting Quarterly provides good background information on microsphere technology. If you want the full story on microspheres, feel free to call us at (800) 487.4583 or e-mail us at marketing@franklininternational.com.
